Goodbye summer! Hello school, homework, but more importantly... YOUTH GROUP!!!
Youth Group starts tomorrow September 7th, 6:30-9:00 so we hope to see you all there! :)

I however will not be there. I am taking classes at Rivier the next 8 weeks on Monday nights and I will miss you all dearly. I'm not sure if my next set of classes will be on youth group nights, but no worries I will still be involved in events and hanging out with you all! :) So I just wanted to say that I love you guys and I can't wait to hear stories about how awesome youth group is! This summer come learn how to be a hero for God. July 21st-July 26th take part in the Teen Leadership Conference at Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA. This conference is for incoming high school freshman to just graduated high school seniors. It will be a life-changing week of speakers, games, workshops and meeting lots of teens from across the country who share your faith. The total cost is $245 and I need to know by June 2nd if you are interested in going, along with a $75 deposit so we can save our spot. IT'S COMING! ARE YOU READY?

Get ready for an experience you will not forget. We will go without food for 30 hours to learn about hunger. We will learn about God, learn about ourselves, and raise money for World Vision, a ministry that provides food and much more for people in need around the world. We will play games, do a service project, take over the church service to share our experience and have a few other great adventures... but I can't give away all the secrets yet. There will be two kinds of people, those that were there, and those that missed out on a lifechanging experience.

We will start fasting after lunch, meet friday evening, stay overnight and hang out all day Saturday. Then we will share our experience in church on Sunday morning. It's gonna be a packed weekend. Mark your calendar now for May 16-17. More details to come, including what to bring and when we'll start.

If you have questions about the 30-Hour Famine, ask a youth leader or someone who was involved last year.

Hey Guys! Just wanted to say how awesome it has been leading games for you all! It's been a blast putting a new twist on scattegories, watching you guys jump-rope with belts, and my all time favorite that I almost had my hair lit on fire last week =) If you guys ever have any feedback or game ideas please let me know and I will add it to my "Amanda's Gameage List." Everybody keep your ears open for info on our Encounter Winter Reatreat. The weekend of January 18-20 we'll join hundreds of other Nashua area teens over at Monadnock Bible Conference for one of our favorite weekends of the year. They have tons to do including laser tag, an indoor pool, inflatable games, snow tubing, the Hillside open mic, and more! For our sessions we'll have music lead by the Arise worship team and messages from Fouad Faris. The cost of $110 for the whole weekend includes food, housing, transportation. If you want stuff from the bookstore or snack shop then bring a little extra cash. Give your medical form and $60 deposit to Germaine to register.

An a-MAZE-ing experience!!

As my favorite time of year is upon us, so is one of my all time favorite activities! On Saturday, October 13th, we will be traveling down to "Lost Vegas" in Sterling, MA at Davis' Mega Maze. It's always a fun time & great adventure. And for the competative types... always a challenge to see which team can make it out first!! :)

We will be meeting at CCA at 11:30am and returning at approximately 6:00pm. The cost is $10 if we get more than 20 people, but $17 if we don't. And food is also available for purchase after the maze is completed at "Caesar's Palette". Don't forget to bring your permission form with you. It's that time of year again, where thousands of students around the world gather around the flagpoles before school to pray. Wednesday, September 26th is the big day. You can check out their website at http://www.syatp.com/ to print up posters and fliers and stuff. Get the word out, and come out to your flagpole to join the prayer revolution!

The Monday beforehand, Sept 24th, from 6:30-8:30pm we're hosting a Youth Rally at Christ's Church. We've invited youth groups from all over the area so you'll get to meet Christians from your school that go to other churches. We'll have ice cream sundaes, music, prayer, sharing...and did I mention ice cream sundaes! I hope you can make it out to get preped and ready for SYATP.

Labor Day Kickoff Party!

Well it's about that time again. The summer's winding down, nights are starting to cool off, and Back-to-School sales abound. But the good news is, that means youth group is starting up again! That's right, we'll be having our Labor Day Kickoff Party on Monday night, Sept. 3rd from 6-9pm at the Willette's house (30 Hammond Rd, Milford, behind the furniture store). So come on over for some volleyball, croquet, and bring your swimming suits if you wanna use the pool. It'll be a great time to see everybody again and catch up after a long summer. Last night we talked briefly on sweatshops so I thought I'd expand on it here. Sweatshops are manufacturing facilities where conditions are inhumane and workers are overworked, underpaid and often abused physically or mentally. Most major companies contract out the manufacturing of their products to the lowest bidder. So often times, the cheapest bidder is the one that pays their workers only cents a day and makes them work long, arduous hours.

You can cast your vote against sweatshops by how you spend your money. Knowmore.org is a great online resource that rates major companies based on six categories: Human Rights, Worker's Rights, Business Ethics, Political Influence, Environmental Concern, and Globalization. You can look up the stores you shop at regularly and discover how they rate. Keep in mind, some of those stores may be owned by a larger corperation so you may have to browse around to find out who's their parent company. You can also check out www.behindthelabel.org for more info on sweatshops, stores that use them, and how you can get involved to stop them. If you want to buy some guaranteed sweatshop free merch then check out www.nosweatapparel.com. They can even print your own design on sweatshop free apparel so you can make a statement of your own!

Thanks for your interest in helping make a difference in the fight for worker's rights. I hope these resources can be a help to you in finding alternative stores that use more ethical and humane practices.

Arise Worship Evening

Coming May 12th to a church near you! Those who went on the Winter Retreat will remember the great music team that lead us in worship each session. Some of you may have even caught them at Soulfest last summer. Well in just a few short weeks on Saturday, May 12th, they'll be leading a community worship celebration at 6:30pm at Trinity Baptist Church in Nashua. Tickets are $7 in advance, $9 at the door. Or if you're involved in Sharefest then your admission is free!

Sharefest is a community-wide service day where we will team up with lots of other youth groups and families to help out at some of the elementary schools in Nashua. Your $25 donation will go towards project materials, transportation, pizza dinner, t-shirt, and concert admission. If you want to join us, please return your registration form to Mike as soon as possible.

Just a few short days from now we'll be gathering for a common purpose, to help save the lives of thousands of children dying of starvation everyday. You can help by collecting sponsors for our 30 Hour Famine. April 13 we'll start fasting after lunch, then meet at the church at 6:30pm to spend the rest of our fast together. During that time we'll play team games where you'll earn valuable survival points for your tribe, help with service projects around the community, collect food to give to the shelter, and lots of other great stuff.

Even if you can't make it to the event you can still collect money and you can still fast on your own. Or even if you don't collect sponsors you can still come to the event. We'll work with you, just let us know. So keep collecting those donations and we hope you can come April 13!

30 Hour Famine

There's lots of cool stuff going on so be sure to check out the Events page for the latest, but I do want to highlight our 30 Hour Famine. On April 13-14 we will be participating in an international event where church youth groups fast for 30 straight hours to raise money for the thousands of kids who go hungry everyday. Statistically every 16 seconds another child will die of hunger...but you can help. Collect sponsors and join the famine to Starve Hunger. See Mike for your Famine Sponsor kit.

Video Scavenger Hunt

Have you ever had the urge to sing in an elevator, or pretend to be somebody famous, or make a human pyramid with complete strangers? Well here's your chance! This Saturday, February 17th we'll be joining in a Video Scavenger Hunt where you could be asked to do all this and more! Starting at 3:00pm we'll split up into teams for the Hunt, go collect crazy videos, then come back together for pizza and scoring the videos. Please bring $3 for pizza and any of your friends that may want to join us. Download your permission slip here. So come this Saturday to race against other teams and the clock in an effort to collect the most random, creative, crazy videos ever!

The Invisible Children New England Road Team is on their way! Alana, Chris, Brent, and Heather left San Diego with the East Coast Road Team and drove 3 days across the county to begin their tour. They've been in New York and Boston so far, but the anticipation is mounting as we're getting excited for them to join us on March 25th. At 7:00 that Sunday evening we're hosting a screening of the film at Christ's Church and will have a little Q&A time with the IC Road Team. Winter Retreat

Danielle and Heather battled it out with bloated sumo bellies (Gwen and Kayleen did too), Andrew serenaded the crowd with his sweet melodies, and in the end Mr. T pulled the upset victory over the infamous Chuck Norris. It was a fun filled, non-stop weekend up at Monadnock Bible Conference this past weekend and those were just a few of the highlights. Fouad Faris, our speaker, did a great job challenging us to be strong in our convictions and real in our faith. Overall it was a great weekend building relationships with each other, meeting other Christians from around our communities, and hearing from God. We're already looking forward to what they're cooking up for us next year! You can see all the highlights of the weekend over at the photo gallery and keep your eyes open for a video coming soon. (Afterall we've gotta do something with all that footage Andrew recorded!)

Well we're back! Hope you've all enjoyed your vacation and your holidays. This Monday we're starting youth group back up again, first youth group of 2007, so come on over at 6:30. I know you all probably know this, but we're taking the next two weeks off from youth group. Considering Christmas and New Years both fall on Mondays this year we thought it would be considerate to let you spend time with your fams. As much as I know you all absolutely love being there, and would probably still come...ok, so maybe we're forcing you to spend time with your fams, but we think that's important too. :) Enjoy your break and we'll be back on Jan 8th!!

Christmas Party

Whether it's a giant black crayon, silly puppy dog socks, or a singing lobster, you never know what you might walk away with from our Annual Yankee Swap. People often consipire all year long to come up with the perfect gift to unveil at the swap. Now remember, it has to be a white elephant gift, which means something lying around the house (or less than $5) that you wouldn't mind receiving as a gift. So bring your wrapped gift to the Harris' house (directions)on Monday, December 18th from 6:30-8:30pm for our Christmas Party. Girls also bring a snack to share and guys bring drinks. Winter Retreat

This January 19-21st we'll be joining over 250 other students from around the area at Monadnock Bible Conference for our Winter Retreat! The plethora of winter activities include snow tubing, ice skating, snow football, laser tag, an indoor heated pool, ga-ga, inflatable games and more. Not only will it be a lot of fun, but it'll be a great weekend of worshiping together with the Arise Worship Team and hearing challenging messages from our speaker, Fouad Faris. The total cost for the weekend is $105 which includes all your meals, housing, activities, and transportation. So sign up now and join us! Movie Night

I trust everybody had a great time at Java Jam last Friday! It was a great night and if you weren't there you totally missed out. Well this Friday we have another opportunity you won't want to miss out on. On Friday, Nov 10th we'll be heading over to the Andreasen's (10 Spring Rd, Amherst) for a screening of "Invisible Children". The film follows the adventures of 3 young men who travelled to Africa looking for a story. They couldn't believe the story they found. In Uganda, children were being abducted and brainwashed to kill for the rebel army in the country's civil war. 'Night commuters', as they've become known, walk for miles from their remote villages the sleep in the safety of the city. This film is awakening a generation to the atrocities of the war in Uganda and challenging everyone to make a difference in the lives of the invisible children who surround each of us everyday. I hope you'll make it out to the Andreasen's Theatre this Friday night at 8:00pm to experience this film with us. Warning: Because of the nature of this film, it contains some graphic war images that may be disturbing to some. We do feel it's appropriate and important to show and discuss this film so if you have any questions about it's content please contact Mike. This Friday come join us from 7-10pm for a great rock show featuring local talents One Way Escape, The Honorable Tragedy, An Honest Reaction, and more. As always, it's free admission and we'll have free coffee and hot chocolate. There will also be smoothies and other specialty drinks you can buy at the OneWay Cafe. Persecution

Cries from outside the room penetrated the walls of the secret Underground Chapel, the one place everyone was looking for but only few would find. It was a dark night with no moon in the sky and no lights overhead, but the darkness helped hide sneaky Christians from the watchful eye of the Secret Police. This past Monday we got a glimpse of what it might be like to be persecuted for being a Christian, something the church around the world has to live with everyday. It issued a challenge to us to stand up for Christ in our lives, in the areas we are persecuted for our faith, and a challenge to pray, encourage, and support those brothers and sisters around the world who pay a high price for their faith. If your life was on the line would you be willing to die for Christ? Would you be willing to live for Him?

Davis' Mega Maze

Two hours and fourty five minutes is a long time to be lost in a corn field, just ask Mike, Amanda, Timmy, Samantha, and Emily. But with coins in hand they finally walked triumphantly across victory bridge at the end of Davis' Mega Maze. The first group out (won't mention any names for risk of jealousy) finished in about an hour and waited patiently munching on some corn bread for the other groups to emerge from the tricky maize labyrith. All around it was a great day but if you missed out you can still catch the pics online.

Be still and know

It was a brisk September morning as a figure with a gray hooded sweatshirt made his way to the flagpole outside Souhegan High School. The sun had recently risen casting it's light on anything it could touch. As morning awoke more students slowly gathered sitting around the pole with their heads bowed. As everyone else passed by on their way to school, 18 students prayed. They prayed for their friends, for the teachers, for their school. A cry arose from that flagpole, to join with others around the world, for God to show up and transform this generation. One woman was pleased to hear it was a good thing and not prayer because someone had died or something bad had happened. A few others just stood by and watched. But God showed up one Wednesday morning when a few courageous students sought His face. And He will continue to show up for those who are seeking.

See You At The Pole

This Monday night we're hosting a See You At The Pole Rally and inviting churches from all over the area. It'll be a great opportunity for you to meet other Christian kids that go to your schools. It'll give you an opportunity to plan out when you'll meet and what you'll do when you get there. Even if you've never heard of See You At The Pole still come to the rally and see what it's all about. Or just come for the free ice cream sundaes! Hope to see you there.

If you're reading this that means you've successfully found your way to our new website! We're excited about all the cool new stuff we're gonna do this year so we decided to kick it all off with a new website design. First off you'll notice we've gotten rid of the separate pages for the Herd and the Sr High ministries. That's right, we're gonna join things together this year for better opportunities to build relationships and build into each others lives. You'll also notice this cool column of blog posts (hint: it's what you're reading right now). In this column I'll be posting info about upcoming events, thoughts on what we'll be discussing in our Bible Study, and any random other stuff that crosses my mind.
